Power Factor Correction (APFC) kVAR Calculator
Work out the capacitor-bank kVAR you need to raise your power factor and cut utility penalties. Enter your load and target, and we can then build the APFC panel to match.
Estimate the capacitor bank size to correct your power factor. For a built, tested APFC panel to your exact load, send us your requirement.
Why power-factor correction pays off in the UAE
Avoid utility penalties
DEWA and other UAE utilities surcharge installations with a low power factor. Correcting to 0.95–0.99 removes that penalty from your monthly bill.
Free up capacity
A better power factor lowers current draw, releasing transformer, cable and switchgear capacity you have already paid for — useful before expanding a load.
Built & tested by us
We manufacture automatic power-factor-correction (APFC) capacitor banks in Dubai — with the right steps, contactors, PF regulator and detuned reactors where needed.
Power factor correction
How do you calculate the capacitor kVAR needed?
Required kVAR = kW × (tan(arccos PF₁) − tan(arccos PF₂)), where PF₁ is your existing power factor and PF₂ the target. This calculator does that for you; add ~10% margin and round up to a standard step.
What power factor should I target in the UAE?
Utilities such as DEWA penalise a low power factor. Most sites target 0.95–0.99 to avoid the surcharge and free up transformer/cable capacity. We size and build the APFC panel to hit your target.
Do I need a detuned capacitor bank?
If your load has significant harmonics — VFDs, UPS, LED drivers — use a detuned (reactor-connected) bank to protect the capacitors. Send us your load profile and we will recommend the right APFC design.
Need an APFC capacitor bank built?
Send us your load and target power factor and we will design, build and test the panel to your specification, delivered across the UAE & GCC.
